May 8–9, 2025, the partners of GREENMO project gathered for their 3rd physical Project Meeting in Sliema, Malta. Hosted by the University of Malta, the two-day event reunited in person the key members of all partner organizations to assess the project’s progress, exchange insights, and co-develop the way forward towards driving efforts for sustainable and inclusive mobility hubs across the Mediterranean region.
The meeting kicked off with a welcome session to define the objectives of the meeting. A workshop on the governance structures of mobility hubs took place right after that, led by Bax & Company. This interactive session laid the foundation for discussing how local and regional governance can best support the design and implementation of mobility hubs, a key component of GREENMO’s vision.
Following this, the University of West Attica (UniWA) provided an overview of the project’s progress to date highlighting the achievements so far as well as the points of attention. The University of Malta (UM) and the University of Cyprus (UCY) presented some preliminary results as they derived from stakeholder interviews and citizen engagement actions, respectively, in the frame of Work Package 2 activities they lead. These insights helped identify both top-down and bottom-up preliminary needs that will shape future strategies, however, further analysis will follow based on the exchange that took place onsite. More specifically, participants engaged in a collaborative discussion on the preliminary gaps and further comparative analysis that is expected to be realized in order to reveal the differences and similarities of mobility challenges and perceptions across partner cities.
The afternoon sessions covered carbon footprint monitoring presented by the City of Ljubuški, as well as financial and legal updates that provided strategic oversight under the moderation of Lead Partner, University of West Attica. The day concluded with a study visit organized by UM, offering hands-on exposure to local mobility infrastructure in the Maltese context. In the evening, participants reconvened for a networking dinner, further strengthening the collaborative spirit of the consortium.
Day 2 began with a deep dive into the project’s communication strategy, website and social media updates, and upcoming opportunities for external engagement led by UniWA. Furthermore, ALOT presented updates on the Results Amplification Strategy and interaction with Green Living Areas (GLA) communities, emphasizing the importance of scaling and replicating project outcomes.
A second workshop focused on refining the outline of upcoming GREENMO’s strategy, especially in relation to mobility hub design, solution diffusion, and implementation pathways. The aim was to jointly work on the common approach and vision that the strategy will fulfill as well as to elaborate on the topics to be covered and the necessary actions to ensure the final uptake of regional stakeholders while taking into account the peculiarities of each participating region. The partners also discussed upcoming tasks, quality management, and shared implementation challenges and expectations, all of which contribute to optimizing the next phase of project activities.
The meeting closed with a wrap-up session by UniWA and UM, summarizing key outcomes and setting the agenda for the months ahead. A shared 3-month task list and plans for the next project meeting were finalized and agreed in plenary.
To conclude, as the project continues to build momentum, the commitment and collaboration of all GREENMO partners remain vital in delivering sustainable mobility hub solutions that meet the needs of Mediterranean communities. So, this gathering proved to be a valuable milestone and served as a remarkable opportunity that was harnessed to its full potential to advance our shared goals!
