The City of Ljubuški Presents GREENMO at Regional Tourism and Mobility Meeting

28/08/2025

On June 30, 2025, the City of Ljubuški presented the progress and results of the GREENMO project at the Product Club meeting of the Romans Wine Danube project, held in Široki Brijeg within the Interreg Danube Programme. The meeting took place at the Office of the Government of West Herzegovina Canton for European Integration and brought together key regional stakeholders, including the Minister of Economy of West Herzegovina County.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Ivan Jurilj, Director of the Office for European Integration, emphasized the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation and sustainable planning of the tourism offer as crucial factors for the long-term development of the region. Participants also had the opportunity to review the progress of the Tourism Development Strategy 2020–2027, with particular attention to the role of cycle tourism and the integration opportunities offered through the #RomansWineDanube project.

Particular interest was generated by the presentation of the GREENMO project, delivered by representatives of the City of Ljubuški. The project sparked strong interest, as it promotes sustainable and inclusive mobility while encouraging the active involvement of citizens in shaping mobility and tourism infrastructure.

The presentation emphasized the importance of developing the mobility hub concept in Mediterranean areas, especially for regions like West Herzegovina County, which is strongly oriented towards tourism development but faces growing challenges of traffic congestion and accessibility. Mobility hubs were introduced as a practical solution to these increasing challenges, and participants recognized that they can become a strategic solution not only for the City of Ljubuški but for the wider County.

The constructive discussion that followed highlighted the need to:

  • Strengthen synergies between existing strategies and EU-funded projects such as #RomansWineDanube and GREENMO.
  • Encourage the active involvement of local stakeholders and citizens in planning mobility and tourism infrastructure.
  • Support the development of green mobility solutions, particularly cycling tourism infrastructure.
  • Underline a shared vision for the sustainable development of tourism and mobility across the region.

As a key outcome, participants agreed on future cooperation between the City of Ljubuški and the County level of government, with plans to prepare new projects focusing on the development and implementation of mobility hubs. This step ensures that GREENMO’s impact goes beyond the local level, becoming a catalyst for regional strategies and strengthening the commitment of West Herzegovina County to sustainable growth.
